Dr Tonks believes that to be an excellent surgeon, you need to be able to listen and empathise with patients. All staff, from administration to nursing, are hand-picked for their bed-side manner as well as their skills and experience.

To become a plastic surgeon, many years of training are required – approximately 12 years of post-graduate training including 4 years of advanced surgical training. Dr Tonks has almost 30 years experience in plastic and reconstructive surgery and over 15 years experience as a consulting specialist plastic and reconstructive surgeon.

At his surgery in Barton, Canberra, Dr Tonks offers many cutting edge surgical and non-surgical treatments such as anti-wrinkle injections, dermal fillers, breast augmentation, liposuction, tummy tucks and rhinoplasty.

Dr Tonks is the previous Head of Department of the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgical Unit at The Canberra Hospital and has trained many other surgeons during his career. With a surgical facility on site, Dr Tonks is able to ensure a very smooth and enjoyable experience from consultation to recovery.

Dr Tonks undertook his medical school training at Otago University in New Zealand and completed his Plastic Surgery training in New Zealand and Sydney.

He is an active member of the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons, the Australasian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons and the Australian Hand Surgery Society.
